Sometimes I think what I want to do when I retire is to be a full time parent to my two cats. I learn so much from my cats, I watch them and they’re so content with themselves.
Cats don’t have self esteem problems. They don’t have difficulty with body image.
And even my old cat doesn’t worry about getting old, she just revels in what she can do. She can lay in front of the fire and warm her old bones, content and purring.
The young cat doesn’t worry about what her calling in life is, she leaps and jumps, she chases little toy mice and throws them in the air.
If I could be that joyful, if I could have that much energy, what a delight!
One of the things I learn from watching my cats is to listen to myself, you know, like they listen to themselves.
They sleep when they’re tired, they eat when they’re hungry, they play when they feel like it, and they come and curl up on my lap and demand attention and affection when they need it.
Wouldn’t we all be better off if we could do that?
Everything I know I learned from my cats.
I wish I could pay more attention to what my kitties are telling me, for they are just being, moment to moment.

Hi, nice reflection!
I like what you say “they are just being, moment to moment.”
We’re also able to learn about being to live today, decide to be happy today, make now as your happiest moment.
Cheers,
Robert

Hi Robert, it’s always great to hear from you. Thank you for your reflections. I’ll be seeing Eckhart Tolle when he comes to Seattle next month and I look forward to writing about that, but better yet, just taking it all in.
Cheryl
