Leadership

I work today for a variety of reasons. Sometimes I’m in touch with some of them and sometimes not. For instance, today I am in touch with the leadership part of my job.

Leadership is an interesting phenomenon for me. I don’t know if I’m a natural born leader, but I do know that I have learned over the years that I must be respectful and decisive at the same time.

Being decisive doesn’t always mean that I know exactly what I am supposed to do or how I am supposed to respond at any given moment. Put simply, it means that I am willing to step up to the plate when the situation calls for it.

I plan to stick with this job for another (about) 460 days.

I will carry my leadership skills into my retirement. I don’t know how I’ll use them yet, but I know on a gut level that I will use them.

I look forward to retirement so much some days that I can barely tolerate the stuff that goes on at work. Today I am in touch with knowing that the time will come and that everything I do at work today is helping to build a foundation for choices I’ll make when I am truly able to choose.

And I’m so close to some pretty good retirement bennies. If I wasn’t, I would move into something different today. That’s a story in itself, though, for another time!

Keep on truckin’.
