What is important to me?

October 20th, 2007 ·

Ernie Zelinski asked us to answer important questions in his book How to Retire Happy, Wild, and Free: Retirement Wisdom That You Won’t Get from Your Financial Advisor.

So often, I read books that ask me to think about things and answer questions, and I just put the book down and walk away because I’m just too busy to bother with actually thinking through this stuff and heaven forbid actually taking the time to write answers to questions.

In reality, these questions are really simple and when I just write the question down and let my fingers fly, either with a pen or keyboard, the answers come. They come without much thought because they’ve been there all along.

The first question is “What is important to me?”

Immediately, what I write is my cat, my relationship, a good meal, relationships with others, my home, and the freedom to come and go as I please.

That’s just a start. I’ll keep answering this question. Going further with it I have more answers: being able to express myself creatively, making a difference in someone’s life (both entire topics unto themselves), drawing, painting, traveling, meeting new people, acting in theatre, volunteering…

Actually, I think I’m getting ahead of myself and answering different questions. I’ll keep writing about this and I really want to read comments from others who eventually discover my posts.

Write on!
