Here I will be discussing vision as being what drives us to our own greatness. Greatness does not necessarily or even normally imply celebrity or being famous, but rather being in our own groove. I truly believe that being in our own groove, or being true to ourselves, makes us great in the world we inhabit and makes us great to those we love and who love us in return. In other words, we all have the power to make a difference from wherever we are on the planet today.
As we transition into retirement, it’s highly likely for many of us that we’ll lose a sense of vision or direction that our jobs and titles gave us throughout most of our lives. We need to view life through the eyes of a child again! When we were children we knew less about the world but had greater vision for who we were and who we would become. Unfortunately for most of us, the reality of “making a living” took over and blinded us for the time being.
Now we can re-awaken those dreams and visions. It should be the easiest, most natural thing in the world to know who we are and what we want but the sad truth is that it’s usually just the opposite!
Fret not, for since this is such a huge dilemma, there is help. Last year while I was living 3 hours from home during the week for my job, I read The Passion Test (among other books at the time) and found this one to be most practical and helpful in getting me to think about what I really wanted. Through fun exercises and tests I actually came up with 5 things I really want to achieve. I am very happy to report that one of them has come to pass, and that is that I no longer live so far from home for my job any longer.
And the best is yet to come.
